CSA season begins Tuesday, May 22!

Vegetable season is upon us! For those of you in our 2007 CSA program, the veggies begin rolling next week, Tuesday May 22, with our spring season. (If you’ve signed up for subsequent seasons only, please refer to your brochure or confirmation letter for your start date.) A few important details to remember:

  • Beginning on May 22nd, our CSA pick-up will be held each Tuesday from 3:30 – 6:30 PM in the First Baptist Church parking lot. To get to the church from 99W in McMinnville, head East on 1st Street. The lot will be on your right, at the corner of 1st and Cowls. Please use the Cowls St. entrance. (Lincoln City folks will be picking up at our new drop site on the coast—I’ve sent you all letters with details.)
  • We are grateful for this relationship with First Baptist. We ask that you help us be respectful guests by driving slowly and carefully in the parking lot. There will be children and other pedestrians present. If possible, please park near to our booth to leave room for the First Baptist staff closer to the church building. Also, please do not loiter beyond the official CSA pick-up location. We hope to continue our relationship with FBC into future seasons, so let’s work together to be a positive presence.
  • The pick-up will look much like our booth at market. We will set up our canopy and display each week’s vegetables in bins in the shade beneath. We will post the name of each item and other information (such as how many is your share that week). We will have some bags available for your use, but we encourage you to bring your own basket, bags or box each week for picking up your share.
  • As you arrive, please check in with us. We have a sheet with member names and will note that you have picked up your share. If you’re new to our CSA, this will give us an opportunity to put a face to a name! We can also help explain the pick-up procedure and answer any questions you have about that week’s vegetables, your balance, etc.
  • If you are out of town and can’t pick up your share, you can give your share to a friend that week by asking them to pick it up—just give them all the pertinent info and tell them to check in with us about whose share they’re taking. Or, if you prefer, you can simply not show, and we’ll donate the leftover food to the St. Barnabas soup kitchen or other families in need. Either way, if you haven’t arrived by 6:40, we will donate the leftover produce—so try not to be late!
  • If you have any urgent questions before Tuesday, please contact us by phone (503-474-7661) or email. If you’ve signed up, you should have received a confirmation letter from us. If you think you’ve joined but haven’t heard from us, please get in touch with us ASAP.

We are very excited about this, our second season of growing fresh vegetables for the McMinnville area community. Today, less than one week away, we are feeling ready: the fields are bursting with growing plants—some of which we will harvest shortly for you! We’re looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones on Tuesday! Until then …
