Snow day at the farm!!!!!

Ahem—to illustrate our commitment to eating locally grown food … this morning we arrived at the farm to this:

To harvest our kale, we first had to sweep it off with a broom, like this:

Then we reached into the snow with our bare hands, like this:

But we loved it. See?

But seriously, we had a blast. Lest anyone feel ‘bad’ for us or admire us too much for harvesting in the snow, we live for days like today. Despite the cold and snow, it was beautiful outside. And we always enjoy a little challenge. And, actually, harvesting in the cold was less painful than some of the extremely hot days this summer. Each season brings unique challenges and joys!!!!!! (And, of course, our little sprinkle of snow was nothing compared to what our old home Bellingham has been experiencing—over a foot of snow and temperatures below 20°!)

We hope the slightly changed pick-up worked for everyone. Even though we had fun working in the snow, sitting in the dark in freezing weather did not sound fun (especially after getting slightly damp and chilled during the day). I imagine that next week will be pick-up as usual. Enjoy this week’s vegetables!

You have got a great attitude and (if I lived a little closer), I’d be proud to call you “my farmers.” Keep up the great work and inspiration for other seeking a “homegrown” life.
