Just wanted to direct folks to the great comments on my recent “What is ‘local’?” post — there are several that are at least as thoughtful as the post itself. They address similar issues, including larger questions about manufacturing as well. Check them out!

It’s so nice to read what other people have written in response to your writing on the term ‘local’.
It was also so exciting to pull the latest issue of Growing For Market out of the mailbox… and see an article you’d written about creating a farm blog! Very cool.
Also just wanted to thank you for writing about Azure Standard. I’d heard of them and it is exactly what I’ve been wanting and a much more varied and professional company than I imagined. The big, yummy catalog arrived the day after I was on their website, via priority snail mail. We sat out with the chickens going through it… We’re really excited to do our bulk buying through them. Thank you : )
Azure Standard is great. We have been ordering from them since January and love, love it.
