Last night (Monday), we attended the McMinnville Jaycee’s annual awards winner, where we received the award for Young Farmer of the year!!!! Wow — what a surprise!
We certainly did not enter the farming profession seeking formal accolades. Our job is full of simple daily rewards that keep us energized about our chosen life: the beauty of fields full of vegetables, happy eaters, working together as a couple …
But we think it’s awesome that the Jaycees take the time to publicly recognize area farmers for their contributions to the community. While we do not seek the spotlight ourselves, we are so glad that the Jaycees thoughtfully honor the rich agricultural presence in our county. The award is a simple yearly reminder that farmers are important too, along with educators and other community leaders.
Happily, our parents and some friends were able to celebrate the event with us. We were also honored that a friend and fellow CSA farmer, Mike Paine of Gaining Ground Farm, presented us with the award. It was an inspiring evening all around.
Congratulations on your award–you guys deserve it!
