Farm family at rest

Casey and Rusty walk along the edge of the home farm.

Well, last Tuesday was our last Vegetable CSA pick-up of 2013, so our family is technically in our winter break period.

But, of course, even though this is our “rest,” we are hardly at rest! The Full Diet CSA will continue through the year. Plus, there is too much fun stuff to do around here for us to just sit around. And, the sun has been shining, luring us outside at every possibility. Fun happens inside though too, as these photos can attest:

Dottie hard at play with some dinosaurs.

We received our first 2014 seed catalog in the mail this weekend. Rusty circled some items he'd like to grow in our "home" garden.

A big spade + gopher mounds = FUN!

Farmer Casey up in a tree! Rusty has fallen in love with tree climbing. He can't get this far up yet, but he is inspired by his Papa!

Me (Katie) and little Dottie out in the field.

A fun afternoon outing for our family might be going out to pick food for dinner — in this case, Brussels sprouts, a family favorite!

Rusty has been building cairns at the table with rocks we collected at the river a few weeks back.

We’d rather play than rest apparently! (Although rest is good too. Early evenings help.)

We’ll start back up with the 2014 Vegetable CSA in January (first pick-up is on January 14). We still have room for members (including new folks, if you are interested). You can download the sign-up form here: 2014VeggieCSA_Info_Signup

In the meantime, I plan to keep updating a bit so that we can stay in touch. And, this week is our Thanksgiving Holiday Harvest (see below for more info)!

Enjoy the season!

2013 Thanksgiving Holiday Harvest #2

How it works: If you would like extra produce for your family’s Thanksgiving or pantry, select items from the list below. Email us the desired types and quantities to farm (at) oakhillorganics (dot) org by Tuesday morning (Nov. 26). We’ll harvest it for you and bring it to pick-up on Wednesday, November 27 between 11 am and 1 pm in the Granary District (look for our white box truck!). We’ll total the price at the time too (orders over $100 receive a 10% discount). Folks who are not current CSA members are also welcome to place an order. Also, it’s most likely that we will offer a second Holiday Harvest just before Christmas. We will send out an email when that comes! For now, here is the Thanksgiving list:
