We’re off!

New sheep!

It’s going to be a short newsletter today — we’re heading out on our annual Breitenbush getaway just after lunch, and Casey and I are both busy pulling together all the necessary details of being gone from home and the farm for two days. With kids and animals and a CSA delivery in the picture, this is not an easy feat. In fact, we both worked all weekend to make our “get away” possible, and even right now I’m writing this newsletter and simultaneously singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to Dottie. There are things I didn’t even know were possible before I had children.

But, before we go: here are some thoughts on this moment in time. Every year we head to this event at the same time of year, mid-February. The regular timing provides a great opportunity to remember our thoughts on past winters since we have an interestingly clear memory of “what was happening on the farm” just before we leave.

Our primary feeling about this year is that — WOW — it has been mild lately. Veggie starts in the greenhouse are growing like mad because of the ambient warmth (our heat benches can only accomplish so much when the temps are below freezing). Everything on the farm is greening up outside as well. And, I’m pretty sure there won’t even be snow at Breitenbush (the forecast is for highs of 47°!). This is a little sad, but it will still be a beautiful visit I’m sure. And, we’re excited about growth!!!!

Ok, time to go pack the diapers. Have a great week everyone! I’m sure we’ll have lots more to share next week!

Enjoy this week’s vegetables!
