Snowpocalypse????

Ok, so it’s not that bad. For us.

But as you know, the weather has taken a turn for the worse since my last post. When I wrote last, I thought we were nearing the end. And, then another eight inches of snow fell. And, then a quarter-inch of ice. And, then four more inches of snow. The fields are completely buried. The only vegetables we can see are the tops of bolting broccoli plants and the Brussels sprouts.

Fortunately, we’re home, safe, warm, and well fed. Our hearts go out to everyone who’s not right now, especially anyone trapped in their cars on I-84 or other snowy roads.

Here at the farm, we’re passing the time by reading, shoveling snow off our steps, having coffee with neighbors, knitting, cooking, banging snow off greenhouses (5+ times now), working on projects, talking on the phone, etc. Today we walked around the island in the snow and chatted with neighbors along the way. We came home with a jug of cider and two boxes of fresh apples from a farm down the road. Yum!

So, we’re now in Day Nine of this winter weather event — it’s gone on longer than any other we’ve experienced outside of the mountains.

We did spend one year living at 3200′ in the North Cascades — we had just shy of 300″ of snow that winter. Now that’s a lot of snow! But, of course, we were prepared for it there, and life continued as normal. We skied and snowshoed a lot and usually rejoiced in receiving more snow. It’s not quite so easy down here in the flats.

Anyhow, we’re just hoping to get to town again soon. Maybe tomorrow? At least, hopefully for Christmas!

We hope everyone else is safe and warm and staying sane too!!!!
