Two Days: 100 Errands (plus more photos!)

In the last two days, we

  • Bought and hauled a yard of compost (which we found at the most amazing place ever in Mac — Greenlands Landscape Supply). A photo of the pile:

(Not very exciting picture, I know.)

  • Hauled a load to the dump.
  • Bought and hauled a ton of lime. (By the way, we borrowed a truck for most of this — which made it clear to us that we need our own pick-up. The Honda Civic isn’t going to make due as a ‘farm car’ much longer.)
  • Built a wash-station:

The left side is where we’ll hose off veggies, which we’ll then put to drain in clean baskets on the lower table to the right. (By the way, I — Katie — built the shorter table, which looks like it was made really fast — but it took me a long time. Considering that the legs are 4x4s, it’s not really that strong. But it will work.)

  • Bought all the items to make a ‘hot’ bench for starting tomatoes and such.
  • Started all the utilities on our new house.
  • Started moving into our new house.
  • Visited some of the grocery stores in town to check out the markets.
  • Talked to a local oil company about getting bio-diesel for the tractor.
  • Casey got covered in grease while putting together the grease gun (wrong, at first).
  • Inventoried the tools in the tool shed (as well as we could).
  • Picked up odds and ends at Wilco, Lumberman’s, Lowe’s, and Valley Feed and Seed.
  • Walked around Mac some more.

It was a lot of hauling and running around. Not exactly what we pictured as ‘farming,’ but fun nonetheless. Being off the farm more in Mac is also giving us a better idea of the town. We’re rapidly falling in love with our new community.
